"After I did ten months in prison I decided to go to rehab, and it changed my life."

I had a short-lived experience with sobriety, but after several relapses I ultimately got clean. My journey is quite simple, I went to jail and served ten months for drug charges. When I was released I went to rehab and had the will to change my life.

Growing up was hard for me because my parents separated early in my childhood. I moved in with my Mom at that time. I suffered a lot of physical abuse from my father; having watched my Dad beat my Mom was hard for me. Eventually she had enough, and we moved to Trenton, New Jersey.

This move was short lived and we moved back to Hershey, PA. When I was ten my Mom married a woman; which was something I was not comfortable with at that age. Everyone in school judged me; I started to separate myself from everyone.

My mother met a man while she was still with her wife and decided to run away with him; leaving me in the house all by myself. This was the moment my life started to spiral out of control. I turned to heroin and crack at thirteen, which was way too young!

This is why I am sharing my story. Skipping ahead, at seventeen I was with a gang member; I started making and selling heroin. I was eventually caught at nineteen. I went to jail and I was lucky enough to get bailed out. After I did ten months in prison I decided to go to rehab, and it changed my life. I’ve been sober a year and it’s great. I got sober August 30th, 2016.
