"I’m doing it for myself to prove that once you put your heart and soul into recovery, you will succeed."
I am a recovering heroin addict. I tried to end my own life by overdosing on heroin because I was tired of the lifestyle I was living and the ways it affected my family. After my overdose, I was in a coma for quite a while, and I had a brain injury from it. After I got out of the hospital, I was sentenced to serve the next 21 or 22 months in prison.
I do not consider time behind bars part of my clean time. I start the day I was released as my first clean day. I cannot remember how many years I will have been clean this year, maybe four, five, or six. This is why I am sharing my story. I’m doing it for myself to prove that once you put your heart and soul into recovery, you will succeed.
