"I had become addicted to painkillers prescribed after an injury to my right hip."
I’m a recovering “Hope Fiend;” My clean date is February 24, 2016. I was first introduced to recovery after attending my first rehab in 2004. I had become addicted to painkillers prescribed after an injury to my right hip.
I managed to stay clean for 25 months, but I relapsed after a few consecutive surgeries. After two overdoses that occurred in 2015 and 2016, I decided to make a change for the better. It was at that point I began putting my all into recovery.
This is why I am sharing my story. I work a twelve-step program and attend meetings on a regular basis. Most importantly, I don’t take that “first one.” I’m scheduled to take the Certified Recovery Specialist certification test soon. I’m currently working on a book about my struggles with addiction, chronic pain, depression, and how I overcame them.
