Educational Events
Throughout 2018, The Story Powered Initiative traveled throughout the commonwealth of Pennsylvania to host community conversations. These community conversations were group discussions filled with members of the community to address stigma associated with substance use disorder, identifying stigma, and how to be proactive when addressing the various types of stigma. In 2019 we continued these conversations and invited our story-sharers to the conversation. Each event included a story-sharer sharing their lived experience with substance use disorder and ended with a group discussion with audience members prompting questions. Our hope is that these conversations will create open discussion among the community and connect community members with one another. Our hope is that in 2021, we will be able to open the conversation to all societal issues impacted by stigma.

As our initiative continues to grow, we hope to attend more events in the future to continue to highlight the brave stories of our community members.
Donations
The Story Powered Initiative has put together over 350 care kits to be distributed across the Kensington area for those who are experiencing homelessness and substance use disorder. These care-kits consisted of personal hygiene items, food, under-garments, and words of encouragement, as well as a list of resources for help if needed. Our hope is to continue making these kits so that these individuals know there are people who care and want to decrease the harm associated with substance use.
